Clomid is a drug that is used to treat infertility in women. It works by stimulating the production of hormones necessary for ovulation. However, like any medication, Clomid has side effects and contraindications that must be considered.
Why take anti-estrogens?
Anti-estrogens are essential substances for athletes taking androgenic-anabolic steroids. The fact is that due to AAS, the level of testosterone production in the body is significantly reduced. The explanation for this phenomenon is quite simple: why produce the hormone when the body already has it? As a consequence, the activity of the pituitary-hypothalamus-ovarian arc decreases significantly, and the level of estrogen in a man’s blood increases. Such a phenomenon can lead to the enlargement of mammary glands and the appearance of other female features in the representatives of the stronger sex.
The disease the drug treats
Clomid is most commonly used to treat infertility in women caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome or other problems with ovulation. PCOS is a condition in which numerous small cysts form on a woman’s ovaries. This can lead to irregular periods and make it harder to ovulate and get pregnant.
The drug we are considering is an anti-estrogen belonging to the group of triphenylethylenes. It is classified as a selective estrogen receptor modulator with a mixed agonist and antagonist action. The main reason why Clomid in bodybuilding has found widespread use is its ability to block the effects of estrogen, which is achieved by binding the active substance to receptors in certain tissues. At the same time, Clomid can behave quite differently in bone tissue, where, on the contrary, it activates estrogen receptors, which increases their concentration.
Effectiveness of the drug
Clomid has proven effective in treating infertility in women. It works by stimulating the production of hormones that control ovulation. This includes follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones stimulate the ovaries to produce and release eggs.
Side effects
Like any medicine, Clomid can cause side effects. Some of the most common include headaches, hot flashes, abdominal pain, and visual disturbances. In rare cases, Clomid can cause more serious side effects, such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which can cause abdominal pain, bloating, or weight gain.
- Headaches;
- Nausea;
- Hot flashes;
- Uterine bleeding;
- Breast discomfort;
Experienced athletes recommend buying Clomid in advance to start taking it in the last week of the AAS course. The dosage of the drug depends on how heavy the course of steroids is, but on average, it ranges from 50 to 100 mcg daily (1-2 tablets). You should start a PKT with two doses of the drug – one tablet in the morning and the evening, and after a week, reduce it to once a day (better in the morning) and continue with this dosage for two more weeks.
If you calculate the dosage correctly, then you will feel the result at once:
- Testosterone levels will normalize, and the amount of estrogen will decrease – the main goal of the application will be achieved;
- Female sexual characteristics will disappear (if they have already appeared);
- Muscle mass gained while taking ACA will be preserved – this property is one of the main advantages of Clomid over other anti-estrogens.
Conclusion
Clomid is considered a relatively safe drug for bodybuilders. Its use can provoke visual impairment and a decrease in bone density. Even prolonged use of an anti-estrogen does not increase the likelihood of developing cancer.
